Fake emails are on the rise, but don’t worry we are here to help!
We’ve been researching the rise in spam and phishing email received by our customers using Microsoft 365 services. As these scams become more sophisticated, we’re finding that more people are being tricked into handing over their details. This obviously has implications for safeguarding, GDPR and the security of the network.
New ways to trick users and obtain valuable data or finances are created all the time which means many traditional web security products are vulnerable until the scam has been detected and reported. This means there is always day zero where these tools don’t detect a problem which leaves you susceptible.
Microsoft has developed a great tool which works proactively to scan emails and any links or attachments for potential problems. They are tested by a safe server, which means they’re checked before they land in your inbox.
Suspicious Links.
If an email contains a suspicious link, the user will receive a warning if they click like the one below.
Suspicious Files.
If a suspicious file is detected alerted as they try to save, open or move it to one drive.
Great, what does this mean?
You can better protect your school, staff and most importantly pupils from cyber scams by implementing this tool that is built into your existing email platform.
We recommend implementing this feature for Office & Senior staff at least as they’re most likely to be targeted.
How much does it cost?
As with most things that are free the services are limited, and while Office 365 is a fantastic tool with many great features, there is an extra charge for some advanced features.
Microsoft charges a modest fee of £1.06 per user, per month. So around £12.84 per user, per year for education
We’ve tested this software ourselves and invested quite a lot of time into the process. We’ll also need to charge a small fee in year one for the initial setup.
Where can I find more information?
